Our route will start heading north from Santa Cruz de La Palma / Puerto.
In about 30 minutes we will be making our first stop at La Montaña or San Bartolo Viewpoint, as it is known by the people of La Palma. We are now in the municipality of Puntallana, from where a large part of the north coast of the island can be seen, the town of Los Sauces is laid out in the distance and the little farmhouse of San Andrés is located on the coast. Here we will find the sculpture of a young goatherd that reminds us the legend of the lover who jumped over the cliff, believing that his love could do anything.
After a short stop in the town of San Bartolo to discover the small viewpoint behind its church, we will continue north towards Los Tilos Forest. This nature reserve will delight us with a 25-metre waterfall located in one of the most loveliest and wetter spots in the Canary Islands, whose waters flow from an altitude of over 1,400 metres.
From Los Tilos we will descend to the coast, to the beautiful farmhouse of San Andrés, a historic-artistic site whose vernacular architecture retains that stately air that makes it one of the most historic districts of the island. There is no wonder that it was residence of wealthy families who devoted their lives and fortunes to the cultivation of sugar cane in the 16th century.
From San Andrés, and scorted by the sea, we will head off to Charco Azul, will pass by the restored Lime Kiln and among banana plantations on this short section of the GR130 trail, which will take us about 30 minutes.
The end of our tour will be Charco Azul, spectacular natural swimming pools sculpted on a lava tongue that fell into the sea and it is undoubtedly one of the favourite bathing areas for locals and visitors alike.
